Hyptosis's News

Well, tax season was a swift kick to the balls. No that I've clambered back to my feet I suppose I'll mention what I've been working on.

GUILD DUNGEONS 2
I have been chipping away at this monster for almost a year now. There are so many little details, and I don't want to cut anything. While simultaneously trying to keep the file size as small as possible. I'd say the game is roughly 1/3rd finished. I've got all of the units in place, the heroes set up, most of the buildings completed. I'm working on random events and gambling and smithing/alchemy right now. Also the spell creation tools. I've hit a bit of a financial wall, I can't afford to keep working on it. So I keep having to stop and take time to work on smaller projects to stay afloat. I thought about running a kickstarter for it a few times but something doesn't sit right about that for me. Not sure what.

SAGITTARIAN 5?
I've been debating real hard about this one. I'm not sure if I should try to pick up the other story ends on 3, or start a new one from a different origin. It's a bit overwhelming trying to keep all the details straight from previous games with so many branches, in just the first three games there are something like 10 or 11 endings. I would kind of like starting again, rebooting the series, maybe revamping the art style. Of course, picking up the other story trees is cool too. I'd love to know what you guys think!

I got this cool little email this morning that said Hood Episode 3 was nominated for game of the year on their point and click adventure category. While I don't expect to win, I never expect much of anything actually, I am super flattered and it feels like an achievement in and of itself.

Check it out here, lots of good games!

Also, unrelated to that, he is some stuff I've been working on. (I've mostly been working on GuildDungeons2, but no screenshots of that yet.)

These are from an rpg I've been working on, well, all of it except the 3d thing, that's just some really crappy 3d stuff I've been doing to try to learn how to work in 3d! That is my first character and my first environment! I know! It's bad! But it's my first try dudes, cut my some slack. :P You're all spoiled by today's graphics!

Also, here is some stuff I don't think I've shared yet, from another rpg project. And for those of you familiar with my fantasy world, where most of my games take place, the story takes place in Kamala. The land where Fjor was form in Relic!

Outcast studios btw is a fantastic comic book forum for aspiring comic artists, scope it out! They are great dudes over there.

Also, it's currently on the frontpage, but scope out my zombie game if you haven't. I don't have time right now to respond to all my reviews, but I do read them, and plan to makes notes based on them and revamp the game some and then release it again with the changes in the future. So let me know what you liked most, and what you hated most!

I just released Children of Brinn! It's a kind of experimental story/oregon trail thing. I'd love to know your thoughts, it isn't too terribly long or complex, and was actually a much harder project to manage than I expected.

The Children of Brinn

Also a little something I'm working on, it's supposed to be a nod/homage to Final Fantasy 6. I'm using similar color choices and similar tile placement. Or trying to! :P

Screenshot

This is a for fun, kinda side project. Although I might like to make it into something more, with voice acting and a killer sound track. We'll see though, most likely I won't be able to maintain the Final Fantasy 6 feel I'm trying to grab. I'd love though to be able to tap into that nostalgic feel for people.

I'll continue to share my projects, in a few days (weeks at worst) I should be releasing another game so stay tuned, thanks guys!

OH, lastly, my age leveled up this month, so that sucked. :P

Just thought I'd post, share what I've been working on.

My main focus right now is Guild Dungeons 2. But it's a pretty massive title, a real pain to code and keep organized. But I want to do it right. I enjoyed making the first one, and a lot of players liked it. Two good reasons to work really hard on the sequel.

I'm also working on this dungeons and dragons/sagittarian prototype. Thing. It's like a cross between Guild Dungeons and The Sagittarian. I want to keep it simple, and hopefully fun to play. I"m worried it might be a bit text heavy, but making flash games to me is all about experimenting. I love trying new game ideas and seeing what people like. It'll probably be a huge flop, and be 'too short' but regardless, I"m excited to give it a go. It's roughly 80% finished.

I know a lot of people are wondering about the next Sagittarians, I AM working on them, but they're no where near ready to be released. They're very taxing titles to work on. I've also been working on Kingdom of Liars, but I'm taking some time to really study my previous games, and try to find what aspects of the game mechanics players liked, and what they didn't like. Like, I got a lot of complaints about the floor panel puzzle in Kingdom of Liars, it made sense to me when building it, but players didn't seem to like it on a whole. I don't want to make the same mistakes over and over.

I think it is really important to listen to your players, while trying to stay true to yourself and the image you have for your product.

Anyway, that's what I"m working on, thanks guys! Stay cool!

New games coming out!

First thing first, I'm releasing a lot of my old art for public use. I've had so many irons in the fire for so long, it's been a really really rough past couple of weeks. Hit after hit after hit and I'm getting tired and I'm running out of money.

I've worked on dozens of games and none of them are ever going to get finished, mostly because the programmers lost interest, but in a few cases it's just me too. Some of these art assets are just culled from projects that we may yet finish as well. Anyway, point is, here is some art for you guys to use in your games if you want!

I'd prefer some minor percentage of ad revenue as a royalty for use, but it isn't required. I really enjoy making this kind of art, I hate to see it go to waste hiding away on my storage drives.

A lot of these are really old and not up to par with my current abilities, but there it is. Also, I've go this game I've very much wanted to finish, but it just isn't going to happen. I've sunk weeks into it and it's moving too slow. I won't make enough money on it to warrant finishing it, so I'm pulling the cord. You guys can see what little I finished here though.

Infinite Paradigm

You won't see it in the game, but I painted over 40 full body shots of characters, dozens of locations, but it just isn't feeling like something that is going to get done. There are too many complex things in the end that I just can't do alone. And looking back, every scifi game I've made in the past (I'm looking at your Wayfinder) has been a failure of epic proportions. It just isn't meant to be. But what little I did do, and it isn't much, I'd like someone to see.

I wanted it to be a slow paced story type game, centered around the supporting characters. The player would play as 'captain' ala Star Trek, giving them orders and sending them into danger. The orders the captain would give, would help determine if they survive, got hurt, and so on. I feel like I just bit too much off with this one though, it doesn't look like much, but refresh and replay a few times and you'll see changes in the story, the variables were rapidly getting out of hand, as was the file size.

I'm also pulling the plug on Rebel Sky. I can't get Stencyl to do what I want, and I'm not a good enough programmer to make anything unique with it anyway. Just rehashing and rehashing and rehashing.

You can play what little bit I completed here --
Rebel Sky Demo

Thanks for scoping out what I've been doing guys. Cleaning my plate like this will hopefully restore my drive some. The only thing left is Guild Dungeons 2, I have some of it completed and I need to drag it out and decide if I can finish it or if I should put a bullet in her head too.

Art for your game! Also news.

If you guys somehow haven't played this game yet, please do! It is built in html5 by some fantastic guys who I very much look forward to seeing more work from in the future.

The retro feel is great, by the concept is pretty unique. It feels like the game I should have been able to play in my youth but somehow never did.

I'm working on something, and I'd like a bunch of people to test it for me.
I just need people to run around, shoot the guys, it's just one little room. And report to me any lag or 'sticky controls/keys'
I'm especially interested in seeing how this runs on slightly older machines. So if you have a super computer, it probably isn't going to help me much. But thanks :P
Means a lot to me, thanks! I'll likely be tweaking this over the next few days, so feel free to check back. Ignore all the stats and stuff on the screen, this is all placeholder art. I'm just trying to get the game engine running smooth.

CONTROLS---------
Arrows or WASD
Z or 1 on the keypad
X or 2 on keypad changes weapon

ALSO! The final episode of Hood is out!
Hood Episode 4!!

Thanks guys!

I need playtesters!

For the game jam we just randomly banded together on the thread and created this baby!
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/604450
I'm pretty pleased with the results, everyone worked hard and considering there were only three of us and we started kinda late, I think things went real smooth.

There were a lot of cool entries, be sure to check them out!

I thought I'd share some projects I'd worked on that will likely never get finished.

The first is a goblin game I was making in Stencyl. It was inspired by Zelda 2, and like, Metroid. It was going pretty smooth, but a serious error in Stencyl corrupted the game, and all of my work was lost. This was the only compiled version that could be recovered, it is about 1/50th the final product. You can click on the scrolls at the top to change you active spell. The controls are wasd, and arrows, and keypad 1 and 2, and the letter keys z and x.

This next thing, just some really short animation tests I did (I can't animate) only spent about an hour on it, mostly dicking in flash 8.

This was a rogue-like rpg I was planning to make, but couldn't code well enough to make it run efficiently, in fact you might get some staggering if you're not on a newer machine as it. Heh.

This was a civ/settlers type game I wanted to make about goblins. Never really got around to it, this is just a mockup, kind of. The idea is you'd plan their village, and they'd work on their own. Like watching an ant farm grow.

This was going to be a rts/4x type of game in space. You'd design ships and manage planets and meet with alien races to negotiate or war with them. I couldn't code well enough to keep the project afloat. Story of my life. You can click on the ships and move them around, you can also see my tests for a ship builder.

This is just, jesus I don't even know. Some weird little building game I started and never finished, but alas, here it is.

Now this one, just... damn. This was Guild Dungeons 2. A lot of people ask about the second one, when it'll be coming out, etc. And I was very eager to work on it, but I hit a serious wall when making it. As the buildings in the city mode stack up, the frame rate degrades. And even on a medium strength machine it starts to sputter. I haven't figured out a fix for this yet, and until I do, the game is on hold. You can see some of what I had done here, you can click on the "Build Structures" tab on the left side to build some civilian structures. As you build more buildings, new options become available and you can see little people moving around the town. Once you get the city to a certain size you can even install some heating and cooling systems. Usually by this time though the frame rate of the game has dropped for most players.

I almost forgot Mane. Man, I really wanted to make this game, but big surprise, my code was not up to par. I'd like to revisit the idea some day. I was going to fan the fire of my love for Ghost in the Shell and Blade Runner on this one. It shows too I think, more than a little. But alas.

That's about it for now, there are a few other project I'm working on, but I don't want to show those as they actually show signs of being complete during my life time. Thanks for looking, I'd love to hear what you guys think and please, show these to your friends and stuff. These projects will never be finished as it, but I'd still love to have them seen by anyone interested. Stay cool everyone!
