My main HD went down last night, lucky I have everything backed up and my important project pushed to an SVN. But yeah... super bummed out. Gonna set me back while I try to fix it.

If you stick the HD in a plastic baggie, put in a freezer overnight, you can reinstall the HD, and get whatever you can off of it, before it heats up and malfunctions again. Temporarily cures bad boards and bad bearings... I've done this before and used Ghost (a cloning program) to completely copy a nearly dead HD.
