There's been assholes that have been swiping from art streams, running the wip through an AI generator and claiming the credit.
Reminds of the Luddites. In the end, they were right. People are getting (more) worse product, for cheaper. Now we're just waiting for AI to make it's own AI and then we can toss ourselves into obsolescence pile.

I suppose the best thing to do is to spread awareness about why having a human draw for you is better. This obviously won't convince the assholes who would treat you like a machine anyway, but it will hopefully keep ordinary people from following suit because they don't know better.
The unfortunate thing is that in this industry, especially online, there are a whole lot of people who would treat you like a machine anyway. It's probably time for more "internet artists" to stop relying so much on commissions from other people and start trying to either support themselves with their own content, or find work in art jobs that by definition require something an AI can't do.
AI is going to be cutting into those jobs next year. Each company might have one or two artists, and they will be AI wranglers, instead of a team of 20 artists like now.
It's sad seeing people advertise AI "art" commissions in hopes of making a quick buck and/or replacing genuine human skill with a cheap copy-machiene.
It makes me concerned that artists like me will get sweeped under the rug in favor of what looks "pretty" at a distance. AI will never be able to replace human skill or the artistic fingerprint of an artstyle.
I'll still keep doing what I love and I certainly will keep fighting for the rights and wellbeing of human artists.
I know we're going to lose, artists always do. But we might as well die loudly.
I'm sorry to hear that. As time passes AI art and its users get more outrageous, hopefully with time they'll reach a breaking point where new laws will have to be made

I’d rather see really shit amateur art made by someone who has no idea what they’re doing making bank than visually stunning art that some AI that has no direction or soul making pennies. I see a lot of people (mostly non-artists) saying that complaining about AI taking jobs away from artists is admitting a lack of skill or something, or you can’t expect everyone to live in the past just because you’re not making money. You have every right to complain, and it’s a shame that artists with real skill and talent like you are losing money to something that has no experience, no process and no pride in its own work. I hope things turn for the better for you.
Same, but AI is going no where. All we can hope for is to get royalties for the stolen art, but it won't happen.
I genuinely don't know what to do. If there's a cheaper alternative, people are going to use it regardless of whether or not it's outputs seem off.

@Chrisdorian17 There will be no loss of interest in AI, and as a matter of fact we are headed in a direction even social media interactions may already be taken over by it. You can get AI to print whole essays, worldbuilding, and other things besides the current visual bread and butter, and you are not able to tell the difference.
Truth is we're all heading down a very individual centric endgame and entertainment industry will definitely change massively over it. Buckle up.

@Nabella Indeed. There are forums and discussion boards where people are using ChatGPT to fill in threads, either fully or to help them write. I've already seen novels written about things and characters nobody would give a fuck about otherwise. It's only a step from having an actual userbase be made out of AI because honestly, what difference does it make if I was a bot giving you attention?
@SquizofrenicCat A whole website where all the content and interaction is done entirely by AI sounds very strange to me. Communities essentially wouldn't exist anymore and the internet would go from a place to connect with people who share your hobbies to just looking for a shot of dopamine. I mean, it's practically that already, but it sounds like it will become much lonelier with less opportunities for everyone.

@Nabella That's the scary fuckin part; an AI can take your lone input and interact with you in a collaborative manner, and it'll be fully dedicated to it. People online on the other hand have free reign to ignore or trash you for whatever reason, justifiedly or otherwise. Which one sounds more alienating?

Y'know, if the future of the internet really is just bots, maybe people will start turning to local events more to stay social. Stuff like art walks and concerts. Whose to say everyone in the future will be terminally online?
I know I'm reaching the end of my life, and I legit think about disconnecting and moving to the woods like several times every day. I wouldn't keep thinking about it if something wasn't eating away at me.

I think what’s happening here is inevitable. Once there is a method that is more economical, the original method eventually becomes obsolete.
How exactly are we going to stop people from using A.I over paying an artists? I’m not just talking about corporations, I’m also referring to everyday people like you and me. Some A.I art programs are free: hell, some are even open-source that you can pick apart the coding and make your own generator. So how can you encourage an average Joe to buy into an artist’s work over a potentially-free A.I software?
Try selling an oil painting you've spent weeks painting and yuo'll see how hard it is to sell real art, no we have to compete with this? It'll be impossible from here on out. And Laws aren't the answer because those laws won't apply in other countries. I don't know the answer I just see the incoming fire.
Sorry to hear that the AI-generated stuff got you that badly. It sucks that a lot of clients can't really appreciate honest effort from human hands, instead of shiny looking junk from an algorithm.
Personally, I believe the AI art world goes down to two things: One, a major lawsuit regarding AI's appropriation of copyrighted original images for profit. Two, people finally get tired of how generic and samey the AI produced stuff looks - definitely a visible flaw with a number of available programs.

I have no problem with AI technology itself... the issue I have with it lies with the way in which the data is obtained and used. It has all the same foul scammy stench as crypto currency circles with toxic positivity desperately attempting to distract people from the fact that many AI works are pixel-for-pixel ripoffs of other people's work without their consent.
