Relic RPG

Alright, here is something for you guys to actually SEE. I've been tossing around the idea of making my own rpg for a while, and here is a sample of the engine I've feebly coded up. It isn't too solid yet, and in this demo once you cross the bridge you're in no man's land.
Also, there is no combat YET. The file size is already getting fat, so I have to decide if I want to convert to vector art, ung, or try to release this as some kinda DD type of game. Which I've never done before so any advice from people who have tried that before would rock.

DEMO 10mb

Let me know what you guys think. I'm taking a short break from it to work on more important work, but I need to decide if and how to proceed on this baby when I return. Thanks!

if you need help, perhaps ask matt here at newgrounds. He created thep epic battle fantasy series.

I might do that, thanks!

wow man - that looks amazing! seems like the sort of game i would toil away at and really love - - the art work is sensational and the characters in the beginning and the lead all seem really packed with character! - - i hope you decide to continue! ( a fully voiced cast would be awesome as well)

Yeah, thanks a million! I do at least plan on voicing the combat scenes, but we'll see, haha.

It's beautiful. And I'd hate to see you have to sacrifice the original level art in order to maintain a reasonable file size, but perhaps some kind of coded array or tiles mixed with overlaid environment elements (like trees and such) could help.

Music and sound will bulk up that filesize, too.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I could code something like that up very well, not efficiently anyway. Hrmmmm

Newgrounds will be generous, they can allow special people additional filesize, but anywhere else it just won't work. Luckily you can load assets ingame. If the game is great I don't mind if there's a loading screen there and there.
You know, you can always put it up on steam , like the creator of Trauma did, it's a flash game on web and on steam.

Yeah, I might try to make a online version too, like with degrading image quality some, but keep the full version to try to release like that. Thanks!

Wow, I was very impressed with the whole concept, as well as the easy movement choice option. I would really like to see this turn into a great game to play, and I would even consider wanting to be a part of beta testing if you decide to go that route. I'm looking forward to this if you ever get time to work on it.

Looking nice, maybe you should tell other ConceptArt.org members about this. (Assuming that you haven't done that already.)

Yeah, it probably would have been a good idea to use vectors in this case. Bitmaps are generally preferable in cases where you need to blit in order to keep things running smooth. But it looks like you could wind up with hundreds of screens and a bitmap for each one would take up a lot of space. Even so, it's usually the audio that takes up the most space. Compress the audio as far as you can while still sounding good (although it doesn't look like you have a lot of audio yet).

I'm thinking interactions should be handled with a key press. It's awkward to have to walk up to something and then click. When you click something in a game and you're too far away you usually expect to walk up to it automatically. The key press would be easier of course.

I love how fast she walks. Slow walking is one of the most common RPG flaws.

This looks very beautiful, I can not give you any advice about RPG's or anything but the artwork looks fantastic. I think you have a great change to end up in the top 50 with this game, if you ever release it.

keep going ive tried the demo and like the story

Looks very promising! However I don't think I like having to use mouse + arrows... maybe it should be possible to select items by hitting space/enter (or being able to walk with the mouse).
About the characters, although they "boing" when they talk, it would be clearer if you shadowed the other characters while one is talking.

The Art is amazing. I can't wait for the whole thing to come out. Well done.

it might be a cool RPG i do not like every kind of rpg but if you decide to make a full version i will try it when i comes out. also im super excited about sagittarian 4 loved the series even though sage is a bit of a cockblock ;)

again manny thx for making the sagittarian series and i wish you goodluck on future games that you will make :)

Dont know much about making games but that rpg you right there looks amazing great job on guild dungion

So far so good! I really like what you have so far. There seems to be a glitch or two when you leave certain areas you end up in a completely different one. ^^;; This is just a demo so far so I think you deserve a 10/10 for what you have going here. XD

looks AWESOME, dude. but after this awesome game gets released, would you mind working on saggitarin 4? one of my favorite series

This is a very good demo id suggest asking the staff at newgrounds if they'd make an exception to ur very fat file or you could trim it down a bit by degrading the quality. I hope this gets released and see it soon good luck.

Very cool. It's like Final Fantasy 7.

I would go PNG / recycle / paint with png. Like copy and paste png things to look like new painting.
Save file size and still have quality art.
